After the recent incidents where <g data-gr-id="34">non-muslim</g> Indian females were found influenced by the ideology of the Islamic State of Iraq and Syria (ISIS), the National Investigation Agency (NIA) has started gathering data of all the NRIs, specifically of <g data-gr-id="35">non-muslim</g> NRIs to keep a tight vigil on their social activities, sources said.
It has been learnt by Millennium Post that all the investigation agencies including NIA are busy gathering the data. “In many cases it has been found that the Indians <g data-gr-id="43">specially</g> the females who are going abroad are converting their religion before attempting to join the ISIS. The number of people converting their religion is very disturbing that is why all the agencies are on alert. <g data-gr-id="42">Maximum number</g> of cases have been noticed in Australia and the UAE,” a source in one of the intelligence agency said.
“Once we gather information of all the NRIs, we will keep a close watch on their social networking profiles. It has been noticed that if anyone is influenced from the ideology of the ISIS, his/her first gesture could be grabbed from the social networking sites like Facebook, Twitter. They either start sharing videos sympathising ISIS or they defend it. Hence, we could pick out who all are the vulnerable targets,” the source further said.
“As the process of gathering data and keeping a watch on their social online activities is at its first stage, no such case has emerged so far. But once we find anyone suspicious, we will first contact their family members to keep them in a loop. Later they will be called for the counselling sessions by a special team of the security agencies,” the official added.
Not only this, but the security agencies are now more alert in keeping a tab on ISIS’s social activities as they are roping in <g data-gr-id="32">non-muslims</g> into their fold.
Recently, a 24-year-old daughter of a retired Army officer was counselled for three days by NIA who wanted to join ISIS. The girl had graduated from a reputed college of Delhi University and went to Australia for her further studies; she showed interest in the activities of Islamic State. After her father gave a tip-off to NIA she was counselled by the agency where she was told the cons of leaving India and joining the ISIS.
“During her counselling she was told about the activities of women who have joined ISIS and how they are being treated in the ISIS camps. After three days of <g data-gr-id="46">counselling</g> she was let off,” an official, requesting anonymity said.
On the contrary, there are more than 1,000 persons who have signed up in India stating that they wanted to go to Iraq and Syria to fight against the ISIS, says an affidavit filed by the Home Ministry to the Delhi High Court.
