Noida villagers block Expressway for ‘adequate’ compensation

Yamuna <g data-gr-id="25">Exressway</g>, a <g data-gr-id="28">high speed</g> corridor connecting Greater Noida and Agra, witnessed huge pile-up of vehicles on Monday when villagers of a particular village blocked the carriageway for nearly three hours.  The angry villagers created <g data-gr-id="27">ruckus</g> after the accident and death of a student belonging to the village. 

The villagers blocked traffic of both sides of the carriageway demanding adequate compensation to the family of the deceased. The crowd was dispersed when district administration assured to take the matter seriously.

According to police, the incident was reported around 10 am when the one, <g data-gr-id="29">Budhpal</g> (19), of Nangla village was on his way to Jewar Polytechnic College. When he was waiting for a public transport at the expressway, a speeding <g data-gr-id="31">canter</g> hit <g data-gr-id="30">Budhpal</g>.

 The impact of the accident was so high that the victim was thrown about 10-metres away from the spot. The passers-by, who witnessed the incident, nabbed the errant driver who attempted to flee the spot. The victim, who suffered grievous injuries, was taken to a private hospital where he was declared brought dead.

When the news spread in Budhpal’s village, hundreds of villagers along with the family members of the deceased gathered at the highway and blocked the movement of vehicles. 

A long queue of vehicles appeared on both sides of the road. With a clogged Expressway and its cascading effect, commuters using Noida-Greater Noida Express Highway also suffered. Police personnel reached the spot. The policemen, after consultation with the locals, cleared the Expressway and vehicles resumed <g data-gr-id="23">plying</g> after 2 pm.
