NOIDA urges construction companies to follow green court’s guidelines

After the implementation of the odd even scheme the level of PM 10 went down this week as compared to December.

Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Noida Authority Rama Raman, in a meeting with prominent construction company officials on Thursday, directed them to follow National Green Tribunal (NGT) guidelines effectively. “We have given clear instructions to builders to cover their construction site areas with green shade on limited height and spring water on stored construction materials to avoid blowing of dust particles. Authority projects and even construction by residents will be under the action plan.”

“All project engineers have been directed to conduct inspection regularly. We will first serve notices to them if they violate guidelines and then fines will be imposed,” the CEO said. The rampant construction has continued at 150 housing projects in Sectors 74, 75,76,78,79 and Sectors 168,111,137,143 along the Noida Expressway.

The situation is worse for the residents staying near these localities. The industrialists, meanwhile, have dismissed the idea of the weekly closure plan brought by the district administration as it is not business friendly for them. District Magistrate NP Singh has asked the representatives of the companies to convert their vehicles into CNG and promote car-pooling among their employees if they are not able to implement weekly closure plan.

Vikrant Tongad, an environmentalist said: “Emission from thousands of vehicles plying on Noida roads and blowing of dust particles from construction sites are the major sources that disturb air quality in Noida. The administration has failed to keep check on the builders. They should also take effective measures to control the pollution level.”
