Noida traffic violators coughed up Rs 2 cr by way of fines in ’15

Noida traffic police collected over two crore rupees from traffic violators in the satellite city last year. The traffic violations were high despite the top cop of Noida roping in Bollywood celebrities to convey the message.

As per the data provided by the traffic police, over Rs 2.20 crore were collected as fines from 1,35,306 violators from January to December 2015. Police also seized over 2,000 vehicles for permit violations. “The maximum 26,846 challans were issued to bikers for riding without helmets. To put an end to this, even Bollywood celebrities were roped in,” said Ram Nayan Yadav, SP (traffic) Noida. This was followed by cases of 15,184 violations of no parking and 10,854 cases of driving cars without seatbelts. The cops fined 21,053 people for speeding on the Noida-Greater Noida Expressway and Yamuna Expressway. 1,666 bikers were also fined for triple loading.

Police also conducted an enforcement drive against polluting vehicles and fined 1,694 violators. People using black films, hooters and sirens, red and blue beacons on their vehicles were also pulled up. The enforcement officials handed challans to 86 people for drunk driving.

The maximum number of challans was issued in November this year, which the traffic police had observed as traffic safety month. During the sustained enforcement and awareness drive, they had fined 42,555 violators. The traffic police had collected a total of Rs 56.31 lakh as fines in November alone.
