A station with capacity of 400 KV will be set up in Noida’s Sector 144 and will ensure supply of 1,500 MW of electricity. The Authority came to this decision with the existing power sub-stations proving unable to meet the electricity demands during peak seasons.
If things go according to plan, the construction work will start from the beginning of March. The work is likely to be completed within an 18-month period. Once the station is operational, it will be the first GIS technology-based station of Noida city.
As per the report, about seven years back, the UP Power Corporation Limited (UPPCL) had decided to construct the GIS based sub-station, but the project got delayed due to financial constraints.
The department had earlier estimated a total cost of Rs 500 crore for the venture, but it has been reduced to Rs 252 crore because of technological advancement. The sub-station will be commissioned in two phases with installations of three transformers of 500 MVA capacities, each.
Aiming to supply 1,000 MW of power, two transformers will be installed during the first phase and remaining in the second phase. The construction work will be carried out by UP Rajkiya Nirman Nigan, while the entire cost will be borne by the Authority.
According to an official of the Authority, the decision was taken under the Master Plan 2031, in which the power department had planned to construct 20 new power sub-stations in various parts of the district.
The power department, which is said to have spent Rs 3,100 crore in this regard, had already commissioned a few sub-stations with the help of the Authority in last couple of years.
“With the city populating rapidly, electricity demands are at peak, especially during summer seasons. We have decided to build more sub-stations to end electricity woes.
Earlier, we had commissioned a couple of sub-stations; more are on the cards to ease the problem,” said the official.
The power department officials said that once operational, it will ensure uninterrupted power to two power stations with capacities of 220 KV, which are located in Sector 45 and Sector 129. Supply of power will also be available to another station of 400/132 capacity in Sector 123. “The proposed station will help in meeting the rising demands,” said an official.
Notably, the region had witnessed massive power cut during last summer. The demand for power has crossed 1,500 MW, while the supply is just between 900 MW to 1,000 MW, causing outages of six to eight hours in various parts of the city daily.
