NOIDA launches cleanliness drive for a garbage-free city

In order to make the city garbage-free and to dispose off waste dumped at various locations, the Noida Authority has started a special cleanliness drive. The authority, which had announced the move earlier this month, has said that the drive is being conducted with the help of sanitation and health department employees. The authority also informed to press additional equipment/resources into service and to impose fines if someone if found littering/insanitation.

“As we have been receiving lots of complaints of insanitation, garbage dumping and waterlogging these days, we have decided to make the city clean with immediate effect. The authority, under its ‘clean city mission’, has already carried out a drive and the latest move is a part of it,” said a senior official.

The authority official said that the city will be cleaned by the sanitation and health departments in two parts starting from 5 am every morning till 6 in the evening. “The move comes in the wake of several complaints being received from residents regarding ineffective cleaning of drains, which is causing waterlogging and subsequently, damage to roads, and potential mosquito breeding,” the official said.

“In regard to the complaints related to waterlogging, pipes and storm-water drains are being cleaned so that water does remain logged causing inconvenience to residents and motorists. The arterial roads of the city and areas from where we have been receiving complaints are being cleaned. Sanitation and health officials have been directed to position pumps to drain out rain water. The department’s staff will also be on duty to deal with any emergencies during the entire monsoon months. Anyone is found littering will be challaned as per the law,” added the official.

To make the city garbage-free, Noida Authority had announced to allocate Rs 330 crore Budget to carry out the clean mission and had initiated tenders last year. The authority, under its plan, had decided to allocate the Budget for mechanical sweeping and a waste collection-disposal project. The Residents Welfare Associations (RWAs) had also decided to join hands announcing to carry out 15-day long cleanliness drives by the end of the second week of July.
