NOIDA, GNIDA roll out measures to check pollution

The markets and industrial areas in both cities will witness weekly offs on a rotational basis, factories will have different hours of operation, shopping malls will not be opened before 12 pm, school timings will be different in different areas and no more SUVs will be registered.
As per the new plan, shops and commercial institutions in Sectors-1, 3, 15, 16, 57, 68, 80, 90, Barola, Nithari, Morna and Nayabans will be closed on Mondays. Markets and institutions in Sectors-2, 4, 18, 22, 23, 37, 41, 50, 58, 69, 81, 89, Bishanpura and Agahpur will be closed on Tuesdays. In Sectors-2, 7, 27, 28, 29, 59, 67, 83, 88, 110, Harola, Atta and Bhangel, commercial activities of shops will not be allowed on Wednesdays. In Sectors-6, 60, 66, 84 and Mamura, closing will be on Thursdays. Commercial activities in Sectors-8, 51, 53, 61, 65, 85, Ghijhod and Hoshiyarpur will not be allowed on Fridays. In Sectors 10, 62, 64 and 87, closing day will be on Saturdays and in the remaining parts it will be on Mondays. A similar pattern has been followed for Greater Noida.
In industrial areas, the authorities have announced new hours for operating the factories. For Sectors 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 57, 58, 63, 66, 80, 81 and Phase-II, operation time will be 8.30 am to 5.30 pm and for Sectors 7, 8, 9, 10 11, 59, 60, 64, 65, 67, 68 Hosiery Complex (Sectors 83 to 88), operation time will be between 9 am and 6 pm. The administration has also changed closing days of factories in these belts. On Monday, factories located in Sectors 1 and 3 (Belt-I), Sectors 80 and 90 (Belt-II) and Sectors-57, 58 (Belt-III) will be closed. On Tuesday, factories coming in Sectors 2 and 4 (Belt-I), Sectors 81 and 89 (Belt-II) and Sectors-58, 69 (Belt-III) will be closed. A similar pattern has been adopted for the other parts as well.
The authorities have also fixed new timings for schools in both Noida and Greater Noida under which the timing of Nehru Public school will be between 7.30 am and 1.50 pm from the existing 8 am to 12 am. School time of Sommerville, Vishwa Bharti, Cambridge, Lord Mahaveer, Khetan, Uttrakhand and dozens of other schools have also been changed. “We have taken adequate measures to reduce traffic burden from roads. We have issued a circular in this regard asking them to adhere to this from January 1,” said N P Singh, District Magistrate.
“Additionally, the authorities have decided curbs on plying of polluting vehicles under which registrations of SUVs will be stopped. From next year onwards, the transport department will stop giving fitness certificates to diesel vehicles and will disallow diesel taxis in the district. Polythene ban, imposed by both NOIDA and GNIDA, will also be monitored properly,” the DM said.
