Noida Authority is likely to issue notices to the telecommunication companies, which have failed to relocate the hazardous mobile towers from residential areas.
Noida Authority chairman, Rama Raman, in the board meeting held in November had passed an order to relocate all mobile towers that have been installed in the residential areas. It had given around a month’s time to the telecom companies to shift them but since the companies failed to abide by the newly-approved mobile tower policy, the authority has decided to issue notices against them.
The authority took the decision following a high number of complaints from the residents. According to sources in the authority, Noida is going to issue notices to the telecom firms because they have yet not begun relocating the towers. He added that if the telecom operators do not respond to the notice, then the authority will take strict action against them.
The new policy foresees that all the mobile towers in residential areas will be moved to open areas of the city such as greenbelts, community and shopping centres. It has identified 300 such towers. In the board meeting last month, Rama Raman had said that if more than one company will install towers at one place, then it will have to pay Rs 50,000. In case, it installs the tower without taking the authority’s permission, then it will have to pay Rs 1,50,000.
