Noida: 12 intersections to be renovated, inputs sought

The Noida Authority plans to renovate 12 intersections at the earliest to improve traffic management and make the intersections traffic friendly. The authority, that has written to the traffic police for suggestions, said that the renovation will be done after it receives these inputs.

There are more than 250 intersections across Gautam Budh Nagar (GBN) district of which nearly 230 are in Noida. The absence of slip roads, traffic signals, foot overbridges (FOBs), and signs here lead to massive traffic jams.

The Noida authority has also received several complaints from residents about traffic bottlenecks at intersections due to encroachments and unauthorised parking.

The intersections such as Sector 15, Atta Peer, Sector 71, Sector 60/61, Mamura Chowk and Sector 37, among several others, need urgent renovation to accommodate the daily traffic volume.

“The Noida authority has sought suggestions from the traffic police and it will act or revamp them accordingly,” said Sandeep Chandra, in charge of the traffic cell, Noida authority.

The traffic police said there are several intersections in the city that are inadequately designed and need to be revamped.

“Sector 15 and Atta Peer are two intersections that are highly congested. There is very little space here to make slip roads or provide foot overbridges (FOBs). Maximum traffic volume from Delhi uses these intersections,” a senior traffic police said.
