Despite years of continuing research all across the globe, a method to predict earthquakes has still not been found. Unlike many other phenomena like like cyclones, storms and even tsunami, earthquakes give absolutely no warning before striking. “There is absolutely no method that can predict earthquakes as of now. There is no such technology anywhere in the world. So, there is no way to say when or where the next earthquake will come, or how strong the next earthquake will be. Nobody can predict that,” Harsh K Gupta, former director of the Hyderabad-based National Geophysical Research Institute, said. Immediately after the Nepal earthquake, rumours spread on the social media and mobile communication applications about more quakes on their way, stronger than the one in Nepal.
