No lessons learnt: Banned police stickers back on city roads

One such rule, which banned the use of police stickers on private vehicles that came into effect in the wake of the Jigisha Ghosh murder case in 2009, has now been forgotten. Millennium Post has found a blatant use of the Delhi police stickers on private vehicles of police officers. According to traffic rules, violators of this rule are liable to pay a fine of Rs 2,000. Traffic police officers deployed at various areas in the national capital have expressed complete ignorance about the existence of such a ban.

The stickers can be seen on the private cars and motorbikes of police officers. Even family members of the police officers have been found to be using vehicles with the banned stickers. Surprisingly, in the past two years no person was challaned using the stickers.

The ban had come into force after a Santro car used in the murder of IT executive Jigisha was found to be using a Delhi police sticker. It was suspected that the use of the sticker might have provided a safe passage for the accused.
