No headway in IT official’s murder

Delhi police are yet to apprehend the key accused in the murder of former assistant IT commissioner Gurjeet Kaur Puri, despite teams being sent to Uttar Pradesh’s Rae Bareli district. Investigators have already made it clear that they suspect the involvement of a middle-aged domestic help, Nandini alias Sonia.

Kaur was found dead at her residence in outer Delhi’s Rohini area on Wednesday afternoon. She used to live alone in a two-storey house in Sector 8 and two domestic helps used to come to the house for daily chores.

According to Mohammad Akhtar Rizvi, additional deputy commissioner of police (Outer), one of the domestic helps, Nandini, has been missing since the incident. She was earlier working at a garment shop and had been hired by Kaur only a fortnight ago.

‘We are collecting information about her and conducting raids at her possible hideouts in Delhi and Uttar Pradesh. There is a strong suspicion that Nandini committed the crime,’ another senior police official added.

Police have also found  a video footage of Nandini from a shop where she worked a few weeks ago.

It has also come to light that Kaur was careful about the domestic helps she employed and had given details about both of her to her daughter Inderpal Grover.

Initial probe has revealed that Nandini had convinced Kaur to sell her an old sofa set, a fact confirmed by the elderly woman’s daughter Inderpal. Kaur then told her daughter that Nandini and her husband would be coming to her house to take the sofa.

Interrogation of security guards of the area has also revealed that Nandini was seen leaving Kaur’s house, along with two unknown people, on Wednesday afternoon. Hours later, Gurjeet’s other domestic help, Kaushalya, found her murdered.

Nandini usually came for a few hours in the morning to do the cleaning, while Kaushalya came twice a day and had been working at the house for the last several years.
