Banerjee was addressing the unveiling ceremony of three major projects of the ITC Limited.
The projects include two Integrated Consumer Goods Manufacturing Facilities at Panchla and Uluberia in Howrah and ITC Information Technology Park at Rajarhat. “I will request all my local friends to extend all support to the ITC Limited to set up their units at Panchla and Uluberia. Let us extend all possible cooperation to them,” Banerjee said.
She said that hundreds of ancillary industries will come up with setting up of a big industry. Stating that setting up of a big industry will help to develop the economy of the region she said: “Collective interest is much bigger than the interest of any individual. Thus everyone must come together for the development work, of which industrialisation is the biggest component.”
“The units of ITC Limited which will come up at Panchla and Uluberia are agro-based industries. Setting up of the units will be helpful to farmers as well. They can sell their yield at the right price which will be processed in the units,” she said.
She even said that the state government was ready to go for any joint collaboration with the company. While addressing the ceremony, YC Deveshwar, chairman of ITC Ltd, hoped to expand the unit at Uluberia and requested the Chief Minister for a plot close to the existing project site for the expansion in future and to set up cold chains.
In reply Banerjee said, “Land will not be a problem for industrialisation. Land is available. There is around 1.05 lakh acre land in the land bank of the state and there is a land use policy as well. I am sure that your expectations will be met.”
It may be mentioned that Deveshwar had announced investing Rs 4,500 crore in the state during the Bengal Global Business Summit in January. The two projects at Panchla and Uluberia will come up at a cost of around Rs 3000 crore. Many other top industrialists had announced investments in the state in the summit and the projects of ITC Limited underlined the success of the global business summit.
The Integrated Consumer Goods Manufacturing Facility at Panchla will be commissioned early next year and the one in Uluberia will start functioning by May. Work to set up an Information Technology Park at Rajarhat has commenced and it is expected to be ready by 2018. The facility at Panchla covers 8,00,000 square feet, while the Uluberia facility covers 4,00,000 square feet.
