Doctors at AIIMS said on Monday that the condition of the five-year-old rape victim is gradually showing signs of improvement and that she has been started on oral liquid and semi-solid diet. The doctors added that there is ‘no danger’ to the life of the girl, though it would take two more weeks to discharge her from the hospital.
DK Sharma, medical superintendent of AIIMS, while releasing the medical bulletin of the rape victim said, 'The girl is responding well to the antibiotics that have been administered to her and her perineal wounds were again dressed on Sunday. The wounds have started to heal, but it may take a few more days for them to heal completely. A team of experienced doctors from different departments of AIIMS are looking after and monitoring the victim's condition'. When asked if the girl is talking about the incident, Sharma said, 'She is very young and does not understand what she has undergone. I will not say she is scared, perhaps she is too young to understand the gravity of her condition'.
Sharma added, 'The victim has undergone colostomy procedure and surgical care of perennial injuries, and if there is a need for reconstructive surgery, it is likely to take place after a few weeks.'
