Union Steel Minister Beni Prasad Verma on Monday claimed that there was no threat to the UPA government as Mulayam Singh Yadav and Mayawati would continue to support the Manmohan Singh government at the centre.
‘The no-confidence motion will fall flat in Lok Sabha because everyone knows why Mulayam Singh Yadav and Mayawati would continue their support to the UPA,’ he said.
Addressing a press conference here, Verma claimed that there is no alternative of the UPA at present, hence the political parties from Uttar Pradesh cannot go against the government.
He also said that UPA will emerge as strong before 2014 Lok Sabha elections that would be held on time. Verma said that the no-confidence motion proposed to be moved by Mamta Banerjee and others would have no relevance.
Commenting on the projection of Rahul Gandhi as the PM candidate in the 2014 elections Verma said that it would be decided by the Congress High Command and they are not in hurry. ‘In my personal capacity I want that Rahul Gandhi should lead the party in the elections and he should become the next PM,’ he said.
Ruling out any move to shift from Gonda, the Lok Sabha constituency he represents, the Congress CWC member said that he will contest from Gonda where he has proposed a 500 mw power plant, a steel processing plant and an ITI.
He also appreciated the Akhilesh Yadav government in UP and said that the sate government was doing well.
‘Akhilesh is my nephew and I have a soft corner for him. But I am always critical against his father Mulayam Singh Yadav,’ said the Union steel Minister in Lucknow on Monday.
