The three Municipal Corporations of Delhi (MCDs) will face another bout of massive fund crunch this year, thanks to the Union Budget 2016-17. The Union government has not earmarked any funds to the local bodies of Delhi although they had requested for allocation of at least Rs 1,000 crore as basic and performance grants to local bodies in Delhi. “In Budget 2016-17, government of India has not earmarked any funds to local bodies of Delhi although we had requested for allocation of at least Rs 1,000 crore as basic and performance grants. We are providing 10.5 per cent of our annual tax collection to the local bodies, however, the local bodies are not getting any non-plan support from the government of India,” the Delhi government said.
