Nitish seeks ban on 15-year-old diesel vehicles

It seems Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar is taking a cue from the Delhi Chief Minister in curbing the alarming level of pollution in his state. Expressing concern over the issue, Kumar has directed concerned officials for banning 15-year-old diesel vehicles in Patna among other measures to improve the situation.

In a meeting of the Environment and Forest Department on Wednesday, he directed officials to launch an awareness campaign among vehicle owners and drivers about the growing air pollution to elicit their cooperation against unnecessary blaring of hooters, sirens and horns. Kumar said a ban should be imposed on burning plastic and other solid waste materials as well within the confines of Patna Municipal Corporation.
