Nine held for selling pirated copies of Great Grand Masti

Based on the information, Delhi Police have arrested nine persons and recovered 355 pirated DVDs of the yet to be released movies along with blue films and obscene MMS DVDs.

“Regular inputs were received about sale of soft copies of Bollywood movies before release. Because of recent leakages of movies such as the Great Grand Masti and Udta Punjab and on inputs provided by the production house Balalji Telefilms, raids were conducted all over Delhi,” said Ravindra Yadav, Joint Commissioner (Crime) of Police.

Investigation of the cases is in progress and efforts are being made to ascertain the sources through which the unreleased movie was uploaded on the internet, he said. In the Crime Branch crackdown, 
nine shopkeepers involved in selling pirated DVDs and soft copies of latest movies were arrested and six cases were registered under relevant Sections of IPC and the Copyrights Act in the past few days, said the officer.

The raiding parties also recovered hundreds of pirated DVDs and soft copies of latest Bollywood movies including Raman Raghav, Teen, Junooniat, Udta Punjab, Sarabjit, Houseful-3 and Veerappan. Besides, pirated Hollywood and South Indian movies and porn videos and MMS clips were also recovered.

Eight computers and laptops used in selling soft copies of movies were seized by the cops. Using decoy customers tailed by Crime Branch men, a Lajpat Rai market shopkeeper Karan Kumar was arrested selling pirated movies including Great Grand Masti, on Wednesday.

The raids were also conducted at different markets in Kotla Mubarakpur, Malviya Nagar, Tughlaqabad Extension, Old Seemapuri and other parts of the city. All the accused shopkeepers had pirated soft copies of Great Grand Masti, which they sold to customers charging Rs 10-50 per movie, he added.
