Nine persons, including a woman, were arrested in Delhi for allegedly posing as evictees of a demolished slum cluster and usurping plots meant for affected people using forged documents, police said on Sunday.
The arrests were made on Saturday following a probe into a complaint filed by residents of the resettlement colony in June 2002 alleging that plots have been allotted to those who were not entitled for these plots.
Nine persons have been arrested and more arrests are likely in the case, V Renganathan, Additional Commissioner of Police (west), said.
The arrested people got plots allotted in their names at JJ Re-settlement Colony in west Delhi’s Bakkarwala by allegedly using forged documents to show themselves as evictees of slum cluster demolished in Raghubir Nagar.
All of them allegedly impersonated as an evictee, produced documents like ration card before Slum Committee and gave undertakings in this regard, police said. The arrested have been identified as Sunil Kumar, Dharmender, Rajesh, Joginder, Praveen, Mohinder, Suresh, Ram Kumar and Asha Sharma.
The Vigilance Department of MCD conducted an enquiry and it was came to that ‘some unscrupulous elements’ have got allotted plot No D-1 to D-36 in Bakkarwala colony in the name of persons who were not genuine evictees.
‘The enquiry also found some persons have succeeded in getting plots fraudulently by way of impersonation to some individuals as well as with the connivance of the officials of various departments. These 36 plots are in prime location.
‘In some cases the photographs of the allottees have been changed to give benefit to the bogus persons through local property dealers,’ Renganathan said.
