NIA likely to file FIR against ISIS

The National Investigation Agency (NIA) is likely to file a case against Iraqi terror group ISIS and its chief Al-Baghdadi, sources said on Thursday. The FIR will be filed under section 121A of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) for waging war against India, the sources said. The FIR is based on the United Nations’ ban on the terror outfit. Sources also told a news channel that the FIR will be used to push for a ban on ISIS under Indian law.

The NIA said that this will be their first step in taking criminal action against those who are supporting ISIS. Central security agencies had earlier reported that the ISIS was using the Indian Mujahideen to target poor Indian Muslim youth in a few states such as Kerala, Tamil Nadu, Karnataka and Jammu and Kashmir.

Sultan Abdul Kadir Armar is a former Indian Mujahideen recruiter on the ‘Wanted’ list of the NIA in its ISIS investigation. However, sources now say that the key link between ISIS and India could be a Cuddlore-based man, Gul Mariacar.

Mariacar was deported from Singapore in March this year for allegedly radicalisiing another Indian, Haja Fakruddin and facilitating his travel to Syria to fight for ISIS.
