NHRC’s annual debate contest for para military forces concludes

The final round of NHRC’s annual debate competition for para military forces concluded on Thursday in presence of National Human Rights Commission chairperson KG Balakrishnan at scope complex.

Congratulating all participants, Balakrishnan said, ‘I would like to thank all paramilitary forces for having participated in this event and making it a success.’ He added, ‘Terrorism has certainly emerged in our country which is a soft target because we are a democratic country. it is because to this reason that we can’t make harsh laws like many other countries of the world.’

‘War against terrorism has to be fearless but we also have to ensure human rights during this war. There is no conflict between national security and human rights but state terrorism is no answer to terrorism as it may provide legitimacy for the people who propagate terrorism.’

Earlier, the final debate started with arguments from central paramilitary officials for and against the topic: ‘Winning Hearst and minds and dealing with internal security do not go hand in hand’.
