NHRC seeks reply from UP govt on gangrape in relief camp

Taking cognisance of a complaint alleging gangrape with a 20-year-old girl in a Muzaffarnagar riot victims relief camp, the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) on Thursday issued notices to the chief secretary, Government of Uttar Pradesh, district magistrate and senior superintendent of police, Muzaffarnagar. NHRC officials said that the complainant had in her complaint alleged that the incident happened due to administrative negligence.

The Commission has observed that the allegations, if true, raise a serious issue of violation of human rights and have sought reports in the matter from the concerned officials.
