NH-24 widening to begin soon

Once widening is complete, it will provide signal-free connectivity between Ghaziabad, Gautam Budh Nagar, Faridabad from the national Capital and will also ease traffic congestion on the highway. The ministry, which had earlier informed the move, has announced to begin construction work within three months time.

As per the report, widening of the road will take place on a 22-kilometre stretch between Nizamuddin to <g data-gr-id="47">Dasna</g> toll plaza. The ministry, in co-operation with the local authorities, will convert the existing six-lane to 10-lane while two new roads of <g data-gr-id="49">three-lanes</g> each will be constructed on both sides of the highway. An estimated Rs 4,500 crore will be spent on the project which will be borne by the ministry itself.

The ministry has also announced to widen 21-kilometre stretch between <g data-gr-id="40">Dasna</g> and Hapur of the same road from the existing four-lane to six-lane. To carry out the construction work in order, the local authorities have been asked to remove illegal structures alongside the road.

Road Transport Minister Nitin Gadkari had earlier informed: “There is a proposal to widen this road to 16-lane and NHAI has prepared it already. We will take it up as a part of Delhi-Meerut Expressway package.”

Gadkari also asked the highway engineers and private developers to come out with new technology and material that would reduce project cost and make them financially viable.

It may be noted that proposals to widen the highway is on cards for the past five years but no move
was initiated.

During these years, several proposals were floated but none of them could be transformed into reality. In 2010, the road transport ministry had even invited and received bids to widen the Delhi-<g data-gr-id="33">Dasna</g> stretch but the plan was scrapped later in 2011.

In 2012, both Noida and Ghaziabad authorities had announced to widen the road but no development was witnessed.

In December last year, local MP and Union Minister VK Singh had also announced that a proposal to widen NH-24 and NH-58 has been successfully passed by the concerned ministry.
