NGT asks DMRC to rectify lapses in its concrete mixing plant

A NGT bench headed by Justice UD Salvi gave a week’s time to DMRC in view of a report submitted by Delhi Pollution Control Committee (DPCC) stating that there were certain lapses in the functioning of the unit which is causing pollution in the area.
The DPCC said that due to lapses in running of concrete mixing plant, there has been an increase in dust and other particulate matter in the air of A-1 Block of Janakpuri whose Residents Welfare Association (RWA) moved the NGT seeking closure of the unit.
The DMRC, while refuting the findings of the DPCC, sought that its unit be allowed to function for a period of two more months within which the plant will be shifted to another location in view of opposition of the residents of the area.
The DMRC also submitted before the tribunal that it is not required to obtain any consent or sanction for setting up such units and only thing required for them was to follow the environmental guidelines which it is complying with.
The tribunal listed the matter on January 29, by when the DMRC has to show that it has rectified the lapses in its unit. It allowed the DMRC plant to continue in operation, saying ‘They are erecting a facility for general public convenience.
Let them rectify the lapses/failings in one week and then they will shift the unit within two months.’
