Organisations of transgender and sexual and gender minorities, have collectively appealed to all parliamentarians to support and ensure the passage of the Rights of Transgender Persons Bill 2014 that is to be tabled in forthcoming session of the Lok Sabha and urged government to demonstrate its will by implementing the directives laid out in the Supreme Court judgement
While doing so, the representatives of V-CAN Network from Tamil Nadu, Sangama and the Karnataka Sexual Minorities Forum, pointed out that the main gains from the recent passage of the Private Member's bill in the Rajya Sabha and the Supreme Court order was that is ensures the basic rights for these communities by guaranteeing “reservation in education and jobs, financial aid and social
inclusion” ; thereby giving a huge boost to communities that have been subjected to unacceptable levels of human rights violations for decades.
