Neyveli Lignite Corp’s third quarter net profit up 20%

Neyveli Lignite Corporation (NLC), a Navratna public sector enterprise (PSE) under the administrative control of the Ministry of Coal, on Monday reported a 20 per cent rise in net profit to Rs 221.6 crore for the quarter ended December 31. The company's net profit for October-December quarter in the last financial year was Rs 184.9 crore, Neyveli said in a statement.
The total income of Neyveli Lignite for the period was Rs 1,371 crore against Rs 1,181 crore in the corresponding period of FY'12, the statement said. The company's share closed at Rs 84, 0.96 per cent up from the previous close on the Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE).
Neyveli Lignite Corporation operates three opencast lignite mines at Neyveli and one at Barsingsar, Rajasthan, of total capacity of 30.60 million tonnes per annum (MTPA) and three thermal power stations at Neyveli and one at Barsingsar with a total installed capacity of 2740 megawatt .
Lignite production in the third quarter was 56.01 lakh tonnes (lt) against 51.408 lt achieved during the corresponding period of the previous financial year, registering a growth of 8.95 per cent.
Power generation of 4575.75 million units (mu) was achieved against 4045.10 mu during the corresponding period of the previous financial year, registering a growth of 13.12 per cent.
GOVT FORMS PANEL ON COAL INDIA
The Coal Ministry has formed a panel to examine the applications received for appointing consultants for the restructuring of Coal India Ltd (CIL). ‘For examination/evaluation of the applications received in the Ministry in context of restructuring of Coal India, a committee has been constituted,’ an official memorandum said.
The six-member panel would be chaired by the advisor (projects) in the Coal Ministry, it said. The committee would ‘evaluate the applications received in Ministry of Coal in context to re-structuring of CIL and prepare a comparative statement for shortlisting the applications’, it added.
