Three months after her marriage, an assistant manager at a private bank in Gurgaon allegedly hanged herself in her rented accommodation in South-West Delhi’s Inderpuri area on Saturday.
The police said the victim, Anchal Bhatiya, allegedly locked herself in her bedroom and hanged herself from the ceiling fan on Saturday.
The victim’s parents – who live in Alwar, Rajasthan – arrived in the city on Sunday morning. They told the police that their daughter was being harassed by her husband and in-laws for dowry right after her marriage.
She got married to one Akshat Sharma, an accountant. According to the police, the duo was in a relationship for the past five years and had got married on January 30 this year.
The police have found a post on Anchal’s Facebook wall, indicating that she was harassed for dowry.
Based on her Facebook status and allegations made levelled by her parents, the police have registered a case under relevant Sections of the IPC against her husband and four others.
Police said the victim’s post-mortem examination would be conducted on Monday, after which it will be handed over to her parents.
