Newborn babies found from different parts of state

Two newborn babies were recovered from two places in the district while the dead body of another was found floating in a river in Alipurduar.

The Railway Protection Forces recovered a newborn baby from inside an unreserved compartment of the Jamalpur-Malda Intercity Express on Friday. While conducting a routine check-up, the RPF personnel heard the cries of a baby and rescued him. When they asked the passengers, nobody claimed him to be their child.

The passengers told the RPF that a woman boarded the train with the baby at Jamalpur but later she fled the compartment leaving the baby there. Other passengers did not even notice when the woman got down from the train. When the train reached the Malda station, the RPF personnel took the baby to the Malda Medical College and Hospital for treatment. Senior RPF officials suspect that the baby may be kept somewhere for trafficking.

Hospital authorities said that the baby is around 3-4 days old weighing around 3 kg. The baby is currently suffering from cold.

In another incident, another new born baby was found lying on a playground Ulora village under Memari in Burdwan on Thursday night.

Local people heard the cries of the baby and reached the spot and found the baby. The villagers informed the matter to the local panchayat and the police. The baby was later handed over to the district ChildLine.

The baby is undergoing treatment. According to the doctor the baby is of 10-12 days of age.

Meanwhile, tension ran high at Bholardabri area of Alipurduar after a body of a newborn was found floating in the river.

After being informed, the police reached the spot and recovered the decomposed dead body. Police have started an inquiry to find who had dumped the baby into the river.

It may be mentioned that few days ago three babies were recovered from a bush at Falta in South 24 Parganas. Police are investigating if the babies were a part of any trafficking racket.
