New war memorial at Princess Park, says Arun Jaitley

A war memorial will soon come up in Delhi at Princess Park near India Gate. Finance minister Arun Jaitley, in his maiden budget has kept aside Rs 100 crore for the same. ‘The country is deeply indebted to officers and jawans for sacrificing their lives to protect the country’s honour. It is a privilege for the nation to have a war memorial in their memory’, said Jaitley during in his budget speech. The memorial will come up near India Gate, which in itself is a war memorial with names of around 70,000 Indian soldiers who were martyred during First World War.
Earlier this year, Prime Minister Narendra Modi had attacked the then UPA government over lack of a war memorial. The finance minister also announced construction of a National Police Memorial and proposed to allocate Rs 50 crore for this purpose.
