New TV channel to explain PSUs’ SCOPE as India’s growth engines

Standing Conference of Public Enterprises (SCOPE) Director General U D Choubey has announced that  SCOPE, the apex body of public sector enterprises (PSEs), will launch a PSU television channel to reach out to all areas of the country, including rural India.

Addressing the 39th SCOPE annual general meeting (AGM), he informed that SCOPE has invited the world’s best academic Institutes such as Harvard, Kellog's, Wharton and Stanford to open Independent PSE Management Institute, which is meant exclusively for wards and employees of public sector undertakings.

Speaking on the occasion, NTPC CMD and SCOPE Chairman Arup Roy Choudhury highlighted the various activities of SCOPE, which include policy advocacy and programmes for overall development. of PSEs. 

He briefed the members about the recent meeting of PSE chief executives with Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, at which he highlighted the key issues related to autonomy and empowerment, improvement of the MoU system, succession planning, barriers to expeditious approval/ execution of projects and long-term vision and strategy of CPSEs.

Roy Choudhury announced that President Pranab Mukherjee would attend the 4th Public Sector Day celebrations on 10 April, 2013, and present the  SCOPE Meritorious Awards in specialized fields to PSEs. He also highlighted the robust performance of PSEs over the years and their emergence as the growth engines of economic development of the country.

Choubey said that SCOPE has taken steps to groom effective leaders in PSEs and increase professionalisation of their boards, with focus on the role of independent directors. 

He informed that SCOPE’s Steering Committee on RTI is helping PSEs to improve understanding of the RTI Act, 2005, and  address the issues being faced by PSEs in implementation of the Act.

 He added that a few years have passed since the RTI Act's introduction and pointed out that several aberrations have made some amendments necessary in the the Act.
