The state’s first pet crematorium is coming up at New Town. This will give much needed relief to pet owners who face untold misery in giving their furry companions a dignified farewell. There is a pet burial ground in South 24-Parganas. When a pet dies, the owners often take the carcass to a nearby garbage vat and dump it there.
Debashis Sen, chairman of Housing and Infrastructure Development Corporation (Hidco) said a five cottah plot had been earmarked to set up the crematorium. There will be a place where pet owners can wait. Tenders to select the firm will be floated soon.
Hidco has already set up a pet corner which is situated on a portion of the park earmarked for senior citizens. There will be two separate entrances- one for owners and their pets, and another that will be out of bounds to pets. There will be an area where the owners can walk with their pets. This is also the first park in the state where dogs will be allowed. In Kolkata, as there is no space earmarked for pets, the owners find it difficult to take their pets out for a walk.
A pet hospital is coming at the pet corner where there will be a facility to conduct surgeries. A shop will be opened where pet items like shampoo and food will be available.
