New entry in Modi fan club: one-time detractor Shotgun

In June, the 67-year-old Bollywood star joined BJP veteran LK Advani in boycotting the BJP’s conclave in Goa where the party announced that Modi would be in charge of its campaign for the national election, a major promotion for the four-time chief minister of Gujarat.

Advani’s sulk was ignored once again when the BJP in September picked Modi as its presumptive prime minister. Sinha represents the constituency of Patna Sahib in Patna in the Lok Sabha.

Modi will address a rally in Patna on 27 October, being designed as a challenge to Nitish Kumar, the chief minister of Bihar, who ended a 17-year alliance with the BJP in August over Modi’s ascension to the national stage.

For years, Modi was banned from campaigning in Bihar by Kumar on the grounds that he is a divisive leader who did not intervene to stop hundreds of Muslims from being killed when Gujarat was seared by communal riots in 2002.

Post the nasty split with Kumar, the BJP reprimanded Sinha for offering lavish praise for Kumar, describing him as a leader suitable to be prime minister.

At recent rallies, Advani, isolated and over-ruled in his opposition to Modi,  has paid tribute to the chief minister and stated that he will be ‘elated’ if Modi becomes prime minister.
