New DPSS chairperson Sharada Nayak braces for stormy tenure, to sit on dharna

A day later, a group of people, led by two life members (vice-president and treasurer of the Society), whom Nayak refers to as “goons”, allegedly barged into the Society’s Kailash Colony office and tried to occupy it. The gates have been sealed and a case has been registered against the two members for trespassing. However, an arrest is yet to be made in the case.

Sources in the Society told Millennium Post that Nayak would be staging a dharna outside the office to protest against the previous regime.

Nayak replaced VK Shunglu (former Comptroller and Auditor General) as the DPSS chairperson last weekend. Earlier, too, she had led a series of protests against the previous regime. Nayak who has been a member since 1998, is the first woman chairperson of the society. Nayak told Millennium Post about the crisis in the Society. She said, “I have been writing to VK Shunglu for the last one year on issues, relating to corruption and financial irregularities in the Society. But he never responded to any of my letter.”

“Shunglu excluded and removed me from all committees related to the school. The only position that he could not remove me from is the Working Committee because I was not appointed there but was its elected member. As an elected member whenever I had to speak on things – dissenting in nature – in the working committee meetings, he always dismissed me. Being the only woman among six men, I felt cornered in these meetings. I was pushed to the wall during a meeting when I pointed out that terms of an agreement being discussed were illegal. Shunglu rejected it and refused to accept it.

Then, I decided to take up the issue with the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE). Now, it has come to a point where I have decided to take action and brought it to the notice of all life members of the Society, to whom I have been writing constantly on these issues,” she said.
