Netaji family to press Modi on declassification of central, state files

Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose’s family members, egged on by the prospect of meeting India’s Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Oct 14, have drawn up an agenda for the meeting. The demand for declassification of all central and state Government documents on Netaji is the most important demand for family members. So is the demand for the tabling of the Justice Mukherjee Commission of Inquiry’s report of 2006 in Parliament, not accepted by the ruling Congress-led Government at the Centre.

The declassification of the Central intelligence files on <g data-gr-id="36">Netaji(PMO,IB)was</g> demanded by the family ever since they met the PM in Kolkata at the Raj Bhavan in May 2015. “That meeting was positive. Now we want immediate declassification of the Central Government files on Netaji. Mamata Banerjee has already made public the 64 files in her custody. We also want all the state Governments to <g data-gr-id="29">de classify</g> the relevant files on Netaji”, Chandra Kumar Bose, Netaji’s <g data-gr-id="30">grand nephew</g> told Millennium Post.

The state Governments of <g data-gr-id="26">Odhisa</g>, Bihar, UP, Kerala, Tamil Nadu, Punjab may be having relevant documents on Bose.

Another demand that Netaji’s family plans to put across to the PM is the tabling of the Justice Mukherjee Commission’s report in Parliament. “Justice Mukherjee had reported in 2006 after examining various documents and evidence available that Netaji did not die in the Taihoku air crash dated August 18, 1945. He saw the documents after visiting the crash site which said that there was no air movement on August 18, <g data-gr-id="33">1845</g> at the said airport. There was no crash either though there were records of a  US bomber crashing on Sep 25 at the same airport", said Chandra Kumar Bose. Justice Mukherjee further said that the ashes preserved at the Renkoji temple belonged to a Japanese soldier, Ichiro Okura and not Netaji, as is commonly believed. “A <g data-gr-id="27">high powered</g> committee must examine all the available classified documents on Netaji and table its findings in Parliament”, added family spokesperson Chandra Kumar Bose.
