Nepal prez tells Prachanda to resolve crisis with consensus

Amid continued political stalemate in Nepal, President Ram Baran Yadav has asked Maoist chief Prachanda to find a way out by forging a consensus among parties.

Yadav said this when UCPN-Maoist chief Prachanda called on him on Thursday. Prachanda attempted to break the current political deadlock that has remained since the Constituent Assembly was dissolved on 27 May without promulgating the constitution as the major parties had differences on key issues, including the type of federal structure.

The president has asked the chief of the ruling UCPN-Maoist party to find a way out from the political stalemate on the basis of consensus among political parties, president’s press adviser, Rajendra Dahal, said.  Multilateral talks among the political parties are expected to intensify as the week-long government holiday ends on Monday.
