NDMC welcomes all to tunnel under Connaught Place!

New Delhi Municipal Council (NDMC) is opening a part of the underground tunnel at Connaught Place from Thursday for public view.

‘People will be allowed in batches to see the tunnel under the guidance of the trained officials. The entry will be free,’ said Jalaj Shrivastava, chairperson of NDMC. The tunnel will be opened from 11.30 am to 4.30 pm from Thursday to 4 January. ‘The 1.2-km long service tunnel is probably a first-of-its-kind in India,’ added Shrivastava. It was constructed during the re-development of Connaught Place that the NDMC set up the service tunnel, with a cross section of 7x7 metres.

It houses services such as electric and communication cables, water supply and irrigation lines, fire fighting services, electric sub stations among others. The tunnel is being open for public view as part of NDMC’s centenary celebrations.
