NDMC to use abandoned school space for community service

North Delhi Municipal Corporation (NDMC) has decided to use its old and unused school buildings for providing community services and convert them into gyms, swimming pools and community centers.

The old and dilapidated school buildings will be razed and new structures to house these facilities will be built. The corporation has identified around 11 school buildings which have been declared dangerous structures and are abandoned.

The leader of the house in NDMC Mahendra Nagpal in a letter written to the Commissioner of NDMC, has asked him to convert old and unused school buildings to provide community services.

‘Those school buildings which are not in use have become a place of criminal activities and dumping site for garbage. The space could be better used in providing services to citizens and could be a source of revenue for the corporation,’ said Nagpal.

There are around 11 school buildings in the jurisdiction of North Corporation which have been abandoned in this session and the structures have been declared dangerous.
