NDMC chairman Jalaj Shrivastava said, ‘We have finalised the design. The WiFi antennas will be set up at street poles to save money. If everything goes as planned, we shall execute it within six-eight months.’
The council, in its centenary year announced a slew of other initiatives at the briefing. Considering the rising incidents of crime against women, it has decided to construct more hostels for working women.
The council has also announced the move to install CCTV cameras at all public places to monitor the safety of children, women and senior citizens.
An amount of Rs 100.09 crore has been allotted for public health and sanitation. In an innovative move, NDMC has decided to start the process of door-to-door garbage collection and directly dispose it of at the disposal site thereby converting the current dhalaos (garbage site) into public toilets.
It is also planning to build the underground car corridors at major shopping destinations such as Khan Market, Gole Market and INA to ease the parking mess at these locations.
The council has allocated Rs 141.44 crore for education services in its area. It has also moved a proposal to build a state-of-the-art training institute for primary teachers in the next financial year. ‘The institute will set a benchmark in teaching standards and help in measuring performance of the teachers,’ said Shrivastava.
It has also planned to renovate the various commercial complexes and municipal markets in its area. An amount of Rs 181.24 crore has been set aside for the same.
