NDMC launches drive to stop open defecation

To mark the National Triggering Day for elimination of Open Defecation, New Delhi Municipal Council (NDMC) has identified vulnerable spots in slum clusters so as to create awareness amongst residents about the ill effects of this social evil. Thousands of NDMC school children, NGOs, RWAs, MTAs and Pradhans of JJ Clusters participated in the awareness campaign launched by NDMC. Nukkad Nataks, distribution of pamphlets, lectures by health experts were organised in order to educate the people about the harmful effects of open defecation, water and vector-borne diseases.
According to the officials, a pledge was administered to the school children and the RWAs, MTAs and JJ Cluster residents have undertaken in writing for prohibition for open defecation and urinating in New Delhi area on this occasion. Under Swachh Bharat Mission, the Council has undertaken BOT projects for constructions of Public Toilet Utilities (PTUs) and Community Toilet Utilities (CTUs) so as to achieve the highest standards of cleanliness, sanitation, hygiene and environment.
“As many as 273 PTUs/TUs are already under operation and work for 37 PTUs is in progress which is likely to be completed within a period of three months. Further, the Council has undertaken the constructions of another 110 PTUs/CTUs having the facilities like water ATM, Bank ATM and Facilitation centres etc,” an official added.
