After trifurcation of MCD in 2012, SDMC had based its headquarters at Civic Center building which falls under the jurisdiction of NDMC. Therefore, as the owner of the property, NDMC had demanded rent from the South Corporation for using its premises as headquarters. The SDMC had refused to pay the rent. ‘SDMC has spent equal amount of money in the construction of the building. They have no authority to ask rent from us’, said a senior SDMC official.
North MCD has charged south MCD Rs 62 crore as rent for using its premises at civic centre for nine months and also fixed Rs 75 crore rent for 2013-14. North MCD has also turned down the demands of the south and east MCDs to share the revenue it earned by giving one tower of civic centre to Income Tax Department on a 99-year lease. ‘NDMC is the sole owner of civic centre and has right on all its earnings,’ said Yogendra Chandolia, chairman of standing committee, NDMC, on Tuesday.
NDMC has said that it will be treated as ‘defaulter’ if it fails to pay the dues.
