NDMC announces free tests and treatment for dengue

With dengue spreading in the city, North Delhi Municipal Corporation (NDMC) on Monday announced the provision of blood tests at major dispensaries in the area, which would include the ‘Elisa’ test. The test is imperative for the confirmation of dengue. In the market, an ‘Elisa’ test costs Rs 1,600.
‘The poor in the city are unable to pay the fee for this confirmation test. Consequently, they are unable to afford costly treatment. We have decided to extend the diagnosis and treatment facility to our hospital completely free of cost,’ said Ram Kishan Singhal, chairman of standing committee, North DMC. Singhal directed the commissioner P K Gupta to issue the order with immediate effect. The corporation has also deployed mobile dispensaries in slums and unauthorised colonies for on the spot check-up and collection of blood samples for confirmation tests. ‘We are providing platelets free of cost in our hospitals and additional beds have been provided to admit patients,’ said Mayank Sharma, additional commissioner (health) of North DMC.
Meanwhile, the city has recorded 2124 dengue cases till 28 September in this year. Last year, only 68 cases were recorded by the same duration last year. For the week ending on 28 September, the city recorded 766 dengue cases, of which 11 were from NDMC area. The maximum of 363 cases were from North DMC, of which a maximum 218 were from Rohini followed by 113 in Shahdara North in East Delhi. So far, three confirmed cases of dengue deaths have been recorded.
