NDA govt raised growth rate from 4% to 7-8%: Rajnath

Home Minister Rajnath Singh said the fast growth of the Indian economy was being globally embraced.   “In independent India, the only government that has done a good job is the Narendra Modi-led BJP government. Modi’s good governance has helped in uplifting the economy to 7-8 per
cent from the UPA’s 4 per cent.”

In its latest Global Economic outlook, it is expected that India’s GDP growth will rise to 8 per cent by 2018-19, from 7.9 per cent in 2017-18 and 7.7 per cent in 2016-17, the Minister said. While addressing the 'Vikas Parv' campaign, he said, “The OROP scheme and a potential upturn in rural demand are likely to boost India's economic growth."

The government accepted veterans' One Rank, One Pension (OROP) demand last year. The move has resulted in increased financial flow for the retired defence personnel, wherein arrears have been credited to their bank accounts.

The annual financial implication would be around Rs 7,488 crore since it is implemented. Nearly 16 lakh ex-servicemen was given the first installment of OROP, which amounts to Rs 2,861 crore. BJP MPs Meenakshi Lekhi, Manoj Tiwari, and other leaders such as Satyapal Malik, Satish Upadhyay, Vijendra Gupta were also present.

The Minister also talked about the PM’s schemes for rural development. He said, "The Modi government is the first which thought about swacchata (cleanliness) and sanitation. It also has started the 'Beti Bachao, Beti Padhao' campaign for girls." "The day GST Bill is passed, our growth rate will automatically increase by 1.5 to 2%," the Minister said.
