Reacting to the controversy involving chairperson of Delhi Commission for Women Barkha Singh and law minister Somnath Bharti, the National Commission for Women (NCW) chairperson Mamta Sharma took on Bharti accusing him of taking the law in his hands and flouting set norms.
‘Whatever Barkha Singh has done is absolutely correct. This is not a political issue at all. The issue is that one should go through the laid down procedures. When you have no summon in your hand, even if you are the law minister, it doesn’t mean that you take law in your hands. The law minister taking the law in his hands is not the way things work,’ Sharma told Millennium Post.
She also criticised chief minister Arvind Kejriwal for demanding Barkha Singh’s ouster. ‘Arvind Kejriwal’s asking for Barkha Singh’s removal from DCW is something wrong. He should realise that his minister has committed a mistake. The police did what they had to. Also, police cannot go into someone’s premises without a warrant. Whatever Barkha Singh did was the right thing,’ she went on to say.
