NCR Transport Corp gets first regular managing director

Vinay Kumar Singh has been appointed the first regular managing director of the National Capital Region Transport Corporation (NCRTC), a company formed to execute high-speed train projects between Delhi and neighbouring states.
Singh, an Indian Railway Service of Engineers (IRSE) officer and is a post-graduate from the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT), Delhi. The 1988-batch IRSE officer has also served as the CEO of the High-speed Rail Corporation, a subsidiary of the Rail Vikas Nigam Ltd, and was associated with implementation of various projects of the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation.
The NCRTC, a company under the Ministry of Urban Development, will implement the Regional Rapid Transit System (RRTS) and aims to provide fast (up to 180 km/hour), safe and comfortable journey from Delhi to neighbouring cities such as Meerut, Panipat, Sonipat, Ghaziabad, Gurgaon and Alwar. The RRTS will reduce accidents and congestion on roads and bring down pollution by reducing the number of private vehicles.
The National Capital Region Planning Board has identified eight corridors for RRTS – Delhi-Sonipat-Panipat (111 km), Delhi-Ghaziabad-Meerut (90 km), Delhi-Gurgaon-Rewari-Alwar (180 km), Delhi-Hapur (57 km), Delhi-Khurja (83 km), Delhi-Ballabgarh-Palwal (60 km), Delhi-Baghpat (56 km) and Delhi-Rohtak (70 km).
