NCR battles swine flu; 22 reported positive this year, two dead

“A 42-year-old woman died on Tuesday evening due to swine flu. She was admitted at a private hospital in West Delhi,” said Charan Singh, an officer at the Delhi health department.
According to the health department, a 39-year-old man from Faridabad also succumbed to the flu on Tuesday night.
The patient was admitted to Deepak Memorial Hospital in east Delhi area last week. Also, eight new cases of swine flu have been recorded on Wednesday taking the total figure up to 22 this year.
“Three women, aged 66 (Madangir), 33 (Sangam Vihar) and 23 (Greater Kailash I) along with five men aged 48 (JNU campus), 71 (Laxmi Nagar), 57 (Rajouri Garden), 62 (Masjid Moth of South Delhi) and 24 (Chhattarpur) have tested positive for H1N1 (swine flu) virus,” Singh added.
First case of swine flu in Gurgaon has also been reported on Wednesday. A 32-year-old woman tested positive for the disease here.
Following the deaths, the National Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) and the city health department held a meeting to review the situation.
“Training started today (Wednesday) onwards for the health staff at every government and selected private hospitals on how to handle swine flu cases,” said Charan Singh.
“Health secretary SCL Das has also decided to review the training sessions at every hospital from Thursday onwards, both by visiting the hospitals and also over phone,” he said.
The first fatality from swine flu was recorded when a woman aged 51 from Ghaziabad succumbed to flu on December 24 last year.
According to the health department, a 39-year-old man from Faridabad also succumbed to the flu on Tuesday night.
