NCB arrests two who swallowed drug capsules to smuggle into city

The Narcotics Control Bureau have claimed to have arrested two foreign nationals who are alleged to have been drug carriers, visiting the Capital, to supply Cocaine. One of the accused is a Brazilian woman, 

Joseane Da Silva Antunes (38) and an Afghan national,  Mohammad Qasem (50) from IGI Airport.

On the intervening night of New Year, a team from NCB, intercepted a Brazilian woman, Joseane Da Silva Antunes at the IGI Airport. 

She was travelling in Etihad Airways from Sao Paulo to New Delhi via Abu Dhabi and had swallowed cocaine capsules. The woman was taken to Safdarjung Hospital for medical examination where a total of 65 capsules of cocaine were recovered from her body.

“The lady is still under medical supervision. More capsules will be recovered from her body,” said a NCB official.

The Afghan national was arrested on January 4 at IGI Airport. He was travelling from Herat to New Delhi via Kabul and had swallowed Heroin capsules. 

He was taken to Safdarjung Hospital for medical examination. During the examination, it was found that he had consumed 90 capsules of the drug.

“The suspect is still under medical supervision. Necessary legal proceedings would be carried out only after the accused are discharged. The agency is still on the look out for more carriers. All persons involved in the racket are being identified and action is being planned accordingly,” the official further added.
