Three persons, including two Nigerians, have been arrested for allegedly smuggling heroin worth Rs two crore by cleverly concealing it in brass nuts and bolts.

The Delhi zonal unit of the Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) stumbled upon the modus operandi of smuggling a total of 2.1 kg of the high grade contraband after it put under scanner a courier firm and few individuals in the national capital for few days.

The Nigerian nationals have been identified as Franklin Mumbasa of Botswana and Obumuneme Nwachukwu who lives in South Delhi's Vasant Kunj locality.

Another person, Charles Howell (30) of Manipur, has also been arrested for allegedly transporting the heroin courier.

"A parcel containing 410 grams of heroin concealed in 72 brass nuts and bolts was intercepted and seized on April 16.

The parcel was booked for New York. Subsequent action led to the arrest of the trio and busting of the syndicate," NCB sources said.

Follow up searches and raids led to recovery of additional quantity of heroin and similar nuts and bolts and the arrest of the Nigerian duo who were running an illegal drug trafficking syndicate, they said.

The three are now in custody under the provisions of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act and will be interrogated, they added.
