CONG TO PAK: DON'T TEST OUR PATIENCE
In a veiled warning of adopting a tough approach towards Pakistan over the brutal killing of two Indian Armymen by intruding Pakistani soldiers, Congress on Wednesday asked the neighbouring country ‘not to test India’s patience any more’.
Reading out a couplet in Urdu from the AICC podium, party spokesperson Rashid Alvi suggested that India’s response will match that of Pakistan and that it will not take such things lying down any more.
Dubbing the incident as the ‘most serious kind’ of violation of the ceasefire between the two countries, the party said Pakistan ‘must account for the action of its personnel’.
Alvi at the same time maintained that ‘war is not the only way out’ adding that India will take up ‘aggressively’ the issue of frequent violation of the ceasefire by Pakistan at different foras.
‘Pakistan must respect the rules of engagement and the ceasefire process....The red lines are clear.
Pakistan must account for the action of its personnel,’ Information and Broadcasting Minister Manish Tewari said.
Reacting with outrage over the incident, Alvi said ‘Pakistan should realize that we are running out of patience.
It should no more test our patience. We have lost our patience now. We have lodged a strong protest. Our this protest should be the last one’.
He said the incident has raised a big question mark on whether the neighbouring country wants friendship because ‘whenever we extend the hands of friendship towards it, Pakistan does something which spoils all these efforts’.
Maintaining that no civilized society can tolerate the depraved treatment meted out to the sentinels of the nation, Tewari said ‘we need to convey not only our concern but our consternation’ on the incident extremely seriously.
Alleging that Pakistan does not respect the Line of Control, Alvi said ‘we want good relations with all neighbournig countries including Pakistan. But Pakistan itself has put a question mark.’
He also mentioned Kargil attack and the Kandhar plane hijack as instances of Pakistan obstructing the peace process.
Alvi said Pakistan had earlier also violated the ceasfire in different regions of Jammu and Kashmir
Tewari said the onus lies on Pakistan because the evidence put out in public speaks of the ‘inhuman and depraved treatment meted out to the Indian soldiers, he added.
‘How can we tolerate mutilation of our braves? Red lines must be drawn...no country can tolerate the mutilation of its soldiers, who guard the frontiers.,’ he said.
