Youth nabbed for cyber fraud from Bharatpur
Kolkata: Cops of Bidhannagar Cyber Crime police station nabbed a youth from Bharatpur in Rajasthan for allegedly duping a resident of Lake Town who happens to be the wife of a magistrate of Alipore Court.
The accused, identified as Prem Chand alias Dipu, was arrested on Thursday and brought to the city on transit remand on Saturday.
He was produced at the Bidhannagar ACJM Court on Saturday and has been
remanded to police custody for six days.
According to sources, it was alleged that the woman was trying to book a hotel in Puri, Odisha for a family vacation trip in October last year.
She told the cops that while searching for a particular hotel on the internet, she came across a website where she found a mobile number of the hotel. Upon calling, a man picked up and introduced himself as the manager of the hotel.
Later, the man asked the woman to send Rs 20,000 to a bank account as the booking amount.
After the money was transferred, the accused person asked the woman to provide the details of her credit card on the pretext of registration.
When she doubted the caller’s intention, she searched the internet again, and this time, she found another website and another contact number which happened to be of the original hotel. Later the woman lodged a complaint at the cyber crime police station.
During the probe, police traced the caller’s location and found it in Rajasthan’s Bharatpur. Later a team was sent to pick up the suspect.
