New Delhi: With Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) leaders asserting that none from the party made telephone calls to the special CBI judge at Ranchi, it seems the remarks made by the judge may add to a fresh controversy into the high-profile matter.
Alleging that it's the handiwork of opponents, RJD leaders said that why no FIR has been registered against the persons who made telephone calls by the CBI Judge Shiv Pal Singh, who is to pronounce the quantum of punishment to Lalu Prasad Yadav in a fodder scam case.
Talking to the Millennium Post over the phone, RJD leader Shivanand Tiwary said, "Calling a judge to influence the judgement is not a normal activity as it should be treated as a criminal offence and details of callers should have been immediately shared with police."
In reply to whether any RJD leader has had telephonic interaction with the judge, Tiwary said, "As RJD leaders understand the gravity of the matter, I can say with certainty that no leader of our party would resort to such a step. The judge should have reported the matter to police. In the age of technology, the number of 'the caller' can be easily traced."
Alleging that there are chances that opponents might have called the judge to malign the image of Lalu Prasad, Tiwary said, "The possibility of our political opponents making such a call in the guise of RJD supporters cannot be ruled out. They may indulge in such mischief to queer the pitch for Lalu. An investigation should be initiated to find out the 'true callers."
Echoing Tiwary's views, senior RJD leader Jagdanand Singh said, "It is unlikely that any of Lalu's well-wishers will do something like this. Unless the judge sheds more light on the episode... discloses the identity of the callers, much cannot be said on the issue."
Countering the allegations, JD(U) spokesperson Neeraj Kumar said, "As we came to know about such development through media reports only, so commenting on the issue is not justified. I would only say that allegations made by RJD leaders are totally baseless."
